If you've clicked on this page, chances are that you are already doing the routine stuff to help our planet?

So, you already drive a vehicle that has low emissions (or better yet, use public transport or Shank's pony :)

You recycle the basic stuff - newspapers, paper, cans and bottles

You buy local food whenever possible to avoid the carbon involved in transportation of products

You always switch off appliances rather than leave in standby - and of course, you're reading this in a thick sweater - or wrapped in a blanket because you've turned down the heating by 1c.

So, you're now ready to tackle something more?

Then how about starting a compost heap which will both reduce your weekly rubbish collection and produce wonderful fertiliser for your garden?

If you don't have a garden (we sympathise) then make compost for relatives, friends or neighbours.

Invest in a rainwater butt to save all that rain which will otherwise go to waste.  You'll be glad you did come the warm weather.

(Don't go buying a water butt or compost bin from a commercial outlet like B&Q - log onto your local council's website and check out your local water board. Many now have schemes where you can buy them at subsidised prices - and often, they deliver too).

If you don't have any joy, then at least buy the products from a local independent retailer - we all need to support our local shops. They are good for us - and good for the environment.

Soon, we'll be providing links to ethical and eco suppliers for all types of products and services - and if you click through from The Big Green, it helps to support our work too :)

More content is coming very soon - promise !
