12 Days of Christmas

Here at Big Green, the December anxiety thing started even earlier than usual this year!!

Everyone in the team has a lot of work on at the moment and lots of deadlines to  meet - so apologies that we haven't been able to update our Christmas Carbon Campaign as often as we would have liked.

We're all still frantically scribbling lists of pressies that we have to buy - and with all the sales that are going on, we'll probably be too late to get the gift we want for someone!

But work comes first  - at least until December 23  when hopefully things will be less manic and we can  finally  start enjoying ourselves.

So, onto the Twelve Days of Christmas......

Sadly,  most people in the UK and the USA now place much less importance on the traditional 12 Days - many think Christmas is over once all the presents have been unwrapped on Christmas Day.

In times gone by, however, Christmas night was just the start of the real festivities. Families used to make their own wreaths on Christmas Eve and then they were all displayed from Christmas night until the 12th night (January 5th).

Families had traditional foods, gifts were often given on all of the 12 Days and it was regarded as a time to celebrate with family and friends.

Unfortunately, many people are now back at work on Boxing Day and by December 27, "real life" begins again in earnest.

So, we thought it would be good to remember the traditional Twelve Days of Christmas and suggest a green idea for each of the days.

The First Day of Christmas (December 25)

These days, this tends to be a very busy day in most households - gifts to unwrap, Christmas dinners to prepare and friends or relatives to visit.

But you could still find a few minutes for a couple of green activities. We'll be giving you ideas soon - so please check back!

In the meantime, be sure to join our Cut the Christmas Carbon and remember to check out Which Green Are You?

Don't we just love pigeonholing people :)
